Great Scott! Mergin Maps Plugin has a time machine

We all make mistakes and sometimes you wish you could go back in time and undo something. Maybe you bought a Cybertruck or maybe you deleted your entire survey layer from your Mergin Maps project. Well, we can help you with one of those problems. In our latest update to the Mergin Maps QGIS Plug-in, we’ve made it even easier to access the history of your Mergin Maps project with a history viewer.

About the history viewer

Accessing the project history is as easy as opening your project in QGIS and clicking on the project history icon in the Mergin Maps toolbar. Once you access the history you can:

  • View changes between specific versions
  • Preview changes in GeoPackage vector layers
  • View a list of project files that have changed
  • Import changes from a previous version to the current version of the project
  • See when a specific change was uploaded, the account that synced it and the type of device that created the change

These changes will make it much easier to evaluate how your project has changed between versions by visualising the project history within QGIS instead of using the web Dashboard. The new feature will have many possible uses, including:

  • Identify where a problem occurred in your project.
  • Inspect which features have been added, updated or deleted between two versions of the project
  • Restore features that were deleted by accident or modified incorrectly with the “Add to project” button

What’s next

We plan to continue adding new functions to this feature. We’ve even included a link to the Wishlist at the bottom right corner of the History Viewer for you to follow if you want to give us any feedback on the tool. As always, we want to make sure that we make Mergin Maps the best experience for our community of users!
